Will never buy a Metz flash again! Bought one in December of last year. It was a good deal (or so I thought), mainly wanted it so I had a TTL flash for my Sony NEX-6 and A6000. I was previously using a Canon 430ex Speedlite on manual power. Figured that TTL would be nice when chasing kids around for photos.
Immediately noticed that the recycle time is SLOW. With my 430ex, unless shooting at full 1/1 power, the Canon would recover pretty quickly and be ready for a follow up shot, not the Metz! Sloooowww…recycle time even with high cap NiMH batteries.
Then a couple of weeks ago, I couldn’t pull the flash of the camera, it should just slide off. I gave the flash unit a tug and it did release, but one of the pins (though in Metz’s case, a wire) that was supposed to connect to the Sony interface shoe was sticking out.
The box that the flash came in proudly shows a medal boasting a 2 Year Warranty. So, I sent the flash to Amplis Foto, the Canadian importer of Metz. After a week in their possession, I was told the pin coming loose was user error (WTF!) and that I had to pay for the repair. Now, how I could go inside the 1/2″ x 1/2″ hot shoe port, squeeze my XL size hand in there and pull out a wire must be an amazing feat of dexterity!
So much for West German build quality…give me a Japanese one every time. Bah Humbug, BOOO to you Metz and Amplis Foto!
