To go in the realms of super macro, one has to address methods of adding magnification to a standard macro lens. This can be done in a multitude of ways, but in underwater photography, the most practical and frequent mean of doing so is to add a close up lens in front of the lens. This close up lens can be of internal or of external type, doing so internally limits the photographer range of subjects for the duration of the dive. By adding the close up lens (also called Wet Diopter) externally to the front of the macro port, the photographers benefits from the flexibility of moving from regular close up work to super macro as they wish during a dive.

This Close-Up kit is a new addition to the Aquatica system, which is arguably one of the most comprehensive in the industry, consisting of a macro port lens holder with +5 and +10 diopters lenses, these are water contact diopters and are made from high-quality achromatic dual elements BK-7 mineral glass, each lenses is treated with both a scratch resistant and anti reflection coating for maximum protection and brightness. Optical performance is maintained to the highest standard, providing a very flat plane of focus which is virtually free of color fringing.

The dual elements (commonly known as doublets) are sealed inside an air space. This optical formula helps eliminate aberration and distortion, improving sharpness and maintaining the magnification of the original lens when submerged.

The Aquatica close lenses have true magnification value, when a close up lens is not air sealed, refraction will rob it of most of its magnification when immersed underwater. The Aquatica r +5 and +10 Close-Up lenses will retain their strength at all time. The doublet formula also guarantees improved performance over single element design.

Super macro is within your reach, with the +10 offering as much as 2.2:1 magnification using a standard 105mm Macro lens. At twice life size, imagine the possibility of having a radical point of view on your subject, showing details so small that the human eye cannot resolve normally!

Our Close up lens holder will mount on any bayonet macro port ever made by Aquatica. It uses non aggressive fastener that will not scratch or damage the protective layer of anodizing on the port. Both the holder and lenses body are machined from the highest quality aluminum, every part is hand polished then anodized to military specifications, optic are assembled by hand and every single one critically inspected before leaving ours premises.

Mounting the close up lens is done via a unique press fit method, this makes for a quick and secure mounting. Both the +5 and +10 close-up lenses also have a standard 67mm thread incorporated in their design for added versatility.

All Aquatica housings since 2008 are designed to accept the new Aqua View Finder, which can be easily installed and removed by the user in a mere 30 seconds. Removal of the finder from the housing is advised for travel and for long-term storage.

An Initial diopter adjustment is quick and straightforward and guarantees a sharp image for each individual’s eyesight. No tools are required. The user may also opt to simply adjust the diopter +/- setting on the DSLR’s built finder instead.

The latest addition to the I-Torch line in the video section is the Video Pro4. Boasting a blinding 1300 lumens, and a wide even beam of 110 degrees this is the next step from the Video Pro. The Aqua LED 800 Video & Focus light is a self contained powerful light of 800 Lumens powered by two easily replaceable and rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries that can be monitored by the built in and easily readable battery life meter located next to the On/Off switch, its powerful wide and soft beam is ideal as a video light and can be dimmed at the push of a single button when used as a focusing light, four different power setting are provided, (20, 180, 360 & 800 lumens), its power consumption is so economical, that it will run for two continuous days on its low power setting.

The simple design allows for quick battery swapping, two standard 18650 Lithium 3000 MAH batteries (included) inserted in a separate tray, protection is provided against voltage, current and temperature overload and against low voltage drainage, the circuit provides a constant output over the batteries voltage range and its linear circuit design prevent flickering from happening. THE HOUSING

With over 30 years of designing and constructing underwater housings, Aquatica made sure it integrated the latest technological improvements in its design, much as it does every time this company releases a new housing. Right off the starting block, the concept of comfortable ergonomic being a priority was applied, not only does the housing features a state of the art high tech look, but it uses time proven methods and solid principles of manufacturing throughout its construction.

The AN-5n is designed and built by our own experienced team, in our Canadian based headquarter. This country is famous for the ruggedness of its diving condition and is excellent proving ground for testing our products. In its construction, one will find that only the highest grade of corrosion resistant materials is used. The main housing body shell is machined from a solid block of marine grade aluminum, on a computerized 5 axis machine, anodized to military specification and subsequently protected by baking a powder coated finish that will resist years of extensive use. All the controls on the AN-5n are double sealed, this essential feature help safeguard you camera and lens from ambient pressure up to and beyond the 300ft/90 meter depth rating assigned to this housing. Controls shafts and push buttons are manufactured from high quality stainless steel, machined to exacting specifications and polished to a mirror smooth surface.

One of the many benefits of being based in Montreal is that this city is home to the third largest aeronautical industry in the world. It is a well known and understandable fact, that this industry has no tolerance for inferior quality when it comes to such strategically vital components. What such strict working ethics means for us is that Aquatica has access to the best raw materials and tools available on this planet. Bottom line: If the material used is good enough to trust your life to it, then surely it’s good enough to protect your camera from the harsh environment it will be faced with.

Special care was taken to locate the AN5n housing controls at their best possible positions; The AN5n respects the basic layout of the camera control, replicating their position as closely as possible. Doing so eliminates having to constantly search for relocated controls.

Connecting strobes is done via two built-in optical connectors. These are standard issue and not an optional accessory. They are built and integrated into the Aquatica AN5n housing from the beginning and will accept standard off the shelf optical sync cords from Inon ® or Sea & Sea ® or other similar brands. Aside from assuring a sure fire exposure every time, an integrated solution, as found in our AN5n, will not require specially adapted or modified optical cords also eliminating the need for optional add-on adapter which could likely become loose, be lost or potentially left behind.

Aquatica, having recently acquired Amphibico, the legendary manufacturer of quality video housings, can now access and integrate their time honoured latches to this housing. This method of securely closing is used on their professional high end video housings, some worth tens of thousands of dollars. The AN5n housing is benefits from this latch system. Its rotary cam action, coupled with an additional security mechanism means that logically, any unintentional opening is prevented from happening. This latch system is arguably one of, if not, the best closure system ever designed for an underwater housing ever.

To accommodate the Sony E line up of lenses, which includes the newly release Sony E 30mm Macro lens, a range of streamlined ports was made available for the AN5n housing. Also forthcoming in the near future will be an adapter for mounting the current line of DSLR Aquatica ports to the AN5n housing,

The rear LCD screen window has a very comfortable angle of 15 degrees built in, conveniently making the composing and viewing of the camera images much easier in a diving environment

With an 18MP APS-C CMOS sensor and 1080p HD video recording with manual controls, this camera/housing combination is the ultimate refinement of underwater imaging at the moment. Being introduced on Aquatica housings for Canon is the options of Optical Fiber and/or regular Nikonos and Ikelite bulkhead connectors to take full advantage of the newer technologies available in underwater strobes on the market today. The Aquatica A7D housing features a retractable lens release lever that pulls out of the way so that the entire camera with lens and zoom/focus gear attached can be pulled out for battery or memory card replacement, no need to remove the dome port, remove the lens and then remove the camera. If you only need to change lens and port, then use the intended lens release. There is no need to completely open the housing and remove the camera in order to change your lens.

MAINTENANCE

The recommended servicing procedures of the products are outlined in the manuals supplied with the product. The outside of the housings and the accessories should be rinsed in fresh water after every dive. The handles should be removed after use otherwise if they remain attached to the housing for any length of time they may bind to the housing and be extremely difficult to remove. We suggest that the main O rings be lubricated regularly and all of the O rings be checked annually.
